Identification starts with the stamped model number on the bracket interior or latch housing, not the packaging. The K-GH series uses a 2.5-inch post bracket with a 0.187-inch wall thickness; the older K-OL series used a thinner 0.125-inch wall that fails at the weld point under repeated wind load. We source OEM Kohler hardware through their trade distribution network, though for discontinued K-OL components we specify D&D Technologies or Nationwide Industries equivalents that meet the same ASTM A653 galvanization standard. Signs Your Kohler Fence Installation Is Failing

• Rail popping from bracket cups. The K-GH series bracket cup accepts a 1.625-inch rail end with a friction fit and single set screw. In the clay-heavy soils of East San Jose, post heave from winter saturation works the rail loose; the set screw galls, and the rail walks out.
• Corrosion at grade-level hardware. Kohler specifies 304 stainless for above-grade components but allows zinc-plated steel for buried post anchors. In the former orchard soils of North San Jose, residual sulfate salts attack the zinc layer within four to six years, leaving the anchor reduced to a rust shell.
