Jerith Fence Installation: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

Jerith aluminum fence installation in San Jose typically runs $4,130-$10,620 for a standard residential project, depending on linear footage, terrain, and whether we’re installing the I-100 residential series or the heavier I-200 commercial grade. We stock Jerith-compatible posts, rails, and pickets for same-day starts on most Willow Glen and Almaden Valley jobs. Most San Jose homeowners discover their Jerith fence needs attention when gate sag becomes visible, powder coating flakes near the salt-air exposure of the bay side, or a post shifts in the clay-heavy soil that dominates the east side of the city.

Which Jerith Models This Applies To

Jerith produces two primary series that we install across San Jose: the I-100 residential line with 5/8-inch pickets and the I-200 commercial line with 3/4-inch pickets and a heavier wall thickness. The I-100 uses a 1.5-inch square post standard; the I-200 steps up to 2-inch square posts. Both series share the same bracket and rail geometry, but the parts are not interchangeable - a lesson we learned on a 2022 job near Japantown where a homeowner sourced I-100 brackets for an I-200 gate frame and the hardware torqued out within eight months.

To identify your series, check the stamped label on the bottom rail interior or measure picket width with a caliper. Jerith’s OEM powder coat is applied at 2.5-3.5 mils thickness; aftermarket equivalents often run thinner, which matters in San Jose’s UV index, among the highest in the Bay Area. We source direct from Jerith’s Pennsylvania facility for color-matched replacements and keep black, bronze, and white in standard stock. For discontinued colors, we provide a Sherwin-Williams fluoropolymer match with comparable chalk resistance.

Signs Your Jerith Fence Installation Is Failing

Signs Your Jerith Fence Installation Is Failing
  • Gate sag or latch misalignment. The Jerith Tru-Close hinge is a self-lubricating polymer design rated for 100,000 cycles, but San Jose’s temperature swings - 35°F winter lows to 95°F summer peaks - accelerate polymer fatigue. When the hinge pin elongates, the gate drops 1/4 inch and the magnetic latch no longer meets its strike plate.
  • Powder coat chalking or fade. Jerith’s AAMA 2604-rated finish should hold color for 10-15 years, but south-facing sections in San Jose’s strong UV can show chalking (a white, dusty surface oxidation) in 7-9 years. This is cosmetic until the substrate is exposed; then aluminum oxide forms and the metal thins.
  • Rail popping from brackets. The snap-fit rail bracket uses a stainless steel insert that grips the rail end. In the expansive clay soils of East San Jose, post heave from winter moisture cycles can torque the bracket, causing the rail to walk out. You’ll hear a metallic click when wind loads the fence.
  • Post lean or footing failure. Jerith specifies a 30-inch minimum embedment in concrete for 6-foot panels. In the sandy loam near Alviso or the fill soils of downtown San Jose, that depth sometimes proves insufficient; the post leans toward the load side, often visible as a bow in the top rail.
  • Corrosion at base plate or hardware. Jerith’s aluminum is anodized, but the 300-series stainless fasteners are dissimilar metals. In the occasional standing water of low-lying San Jose lots, galvanic corrosion can seize bolts, making adjustment or removal impossible without drilling.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Component San Jose Price Range
Single panel replacement (I-100, 6 ft.) $340-$620
Single panel replacement (I-200, 6 ft.) $420-$780
Gate rebuild with new Tru-Close hinges $680-$1,240
Post reset in new concrete footing $380-$720
Full residential installation (80-120 lin. ft.) $4,130-$10,620

The full installation range assumes level grade with standard 30-inch embedment; hillside jobs in the foothill neighborhoods or sites requiring augering through Caliche layers run higher. Every quote is a flat written price with line-item parts and labor, delivered before work starts, under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers workmanship; Jerith’s 20-year limited warranty covers manufacturing defects on the aluminum, which we register on the customer’s behalf.

A homeowner can safely check bracket tightness with a 7/16-inch socket and verify gate level with a 4-foot spirit level. Do not attempt to reset a leaning post yourself - the 80-pound concrete footing must be excavated to below grade, and the Jerith post must be re-plumbed within 1/4 inch over 6 feet to maintain bracket alignment. We’ve corrected three San Jose DIY post resets this year where the homeowner used a quick-set bag mix that cured before the post was true, locking in a lean that required full replacement.

For gate spring adjustments or any work involving the self-closing tension device, call us. The torsion spring in a Jerith Magnum gate can store enough energy to cause hand or wrist injury if released improperly. Measure twice, permit once, then we talk timeline.
