Meet the San Jose Team Behind Rowan Construction Group San Jose

Our San Jose crew has worked together through kitchen teardowns in Willow Glen, roof replacements after the 2017 winter storms, and ADU foundation pours in Almaden Valley where the clay soil shifted the form boards overnight. What holds the team together isn’t a motivational poster. It’s the same pre-construction checklist on every job, the same photo documentation at every phase, and the same rule Grant established in 2007: no one starts work until the customer holds a written price and a written scope.

Grant Rowan, Owner

Grant founded Rowan Construction Group in 2007 after watching a homeowner in Santa Clara County pay twice for the same bathroom: once to a contractor who quoted low and vanished, again to someone competent who had to undo the first guy’s work. He built the company on Clause 1 of the Haven Standard - written price before any work starts - and has kept that promise across 4,000-plus projects. Grant still reviews every estimate over $15,000 personally, and he keeps a photo on his desk of a 2014 kitchen in Cambrian Park where the homeowner cried when she saw the finished space. “Not because it was fancy,” he says. “Because we did exactly what we said we’d do, for exactly what we said it would cost.” He holds a California B-General Building Contractor license and spends his off-hours restoring a 1968 Ford F-250 that leaks oil on his driveway in direct violation of everything he tells customers about paver maintenance.

Marcus T., Lead Technician - Roofing & Exterior

Marcus has been crawling San Jose roofs since 2012, starting as a laborer on a three-man crew in East San Jose and working his way up through GAF and Owens Corning certification programs. He can spot the difference between hail damage and foot traffic granule loss from the ladder, and he’s the one Grant sends when a customer brings a second opinion on a roof replacement quote that seems inflated. Marcus specializes in the ventilation math that most crews skip: calculating net free area for ridge vents against the actual cubic footage of attic space, not just matching what was there before. On weekends he coaches youth baseball at a field near Oakridge Mall, and he keeps a spreadsheet tracking which dugout roofs leak during rain delays.

Elena V., Senior Installer - Kitchen & Bath

Elena joined Rowan in 2016 after eight years with a high-end custom cabinet shop in Los Gatos that priced itself out of most homeowners’ reach. She holds NKBA certification and has installed everything from stock KraftMaid layouts to full-custom Wellborn built-ins with integrated appliance panels. Her specialty is the problem kitchen: the 1947 Willow Glen bungalow with walls that lean, the Almaden tract home where the original slab settled two inches corner to corner. Elena measures twice, builds a story pole, and photographs every stud and pipe before the first cabinet comes off the truck. She speaks enough Spanish to coordinate directly with tile setters and granite fabricators, which saves a day of phone tag on most jobs. Her garage contains a table saw she bought used in 2009 and a vintage motorcycle she has sworn to restore since 2017.

David K., Service Coordinator

David is the voice most San Jose customers hear first, and the person who makes sure the right technician shows up with the right materials and the right paperwork. He came to Rowan from a commercial HVAC dispatch operation where he learned to route six crews across three counties without promising what he couldn’t deliver. David maintains the master schedule, confirms permit status with San Jose’s Department of Planning, Building and Code Enforcement, and calls every customer the evening before a job start to review the written scope one more time. He also handles the photo documentation archive, which means he sees every cracked foundation, every water-stained subfloor, every “we found this behind the drywall” surprise before Grant does. David lives in Naglee Park and walks his two elderly beagles past the historic homes he will never have time to restore.

Jin P., Apprentice - General Construction & ADU

Jin is in the second year of Rowan’s formal apprenticeship, rotating through each trade before choosing a specialty. He spent six months with Marcus on roofs, four months with Elena on trim carpentry, and is currently working driveway and paver installs under a Belgard-certified lead. Jin has a degree in civil engineering from San Jose State that he describes as “useful for understanding why things fail, less useful for actually not failing.” He runs the moisture-meter readings on concrete pours and has developed a particular skill for reading grade stakes on sloped lots, which matters more than most homeowners realize when water needs to drain away from the new ADU foundation. Jin commutes from his parents’ home in Berryessa and is saving for a down payment on a condo, which he has already spreadsheeted against projected ADU rental income.
