Signs Your CertainTeed Roofing Is Failing

• Granule loss exposing the asphalt mat. CertainTeed’s heavier laminates hold granules well, but south-facing slopes in San Jose’s dry summers accelerate UV breakdown. Once the mat shows, water intrusion is 2-4 years away, not ten.
• Cracked or lifted ridge caps, especially on north-facing hips. The Shadow Ridge line uses a pre-curved laminate that can dry-check after 15 years in our freeze-thaw cycle. This is the most common winter leak point we see in Cambrian Park and Blossom Valley.

This is a decking issue, not a shingle issue, but it shows up first on the heavier Presidential Shake and Highland Slate installs where the dead load is 350-450 pounds per square. We check the rafter span and sheathing thickness before we re-shingle over it.
