The 300 series used analog relay controls with a separate 24V transformer; the 500 and Pro ADU switched to a unified low-voltage bus that won’t backfit without a full control swap. Check the data plate on the main junction box, usually mounted in the addition’s utility closet or the ADU’s mechanical chase - the model prefix (VL3, VL5, or VLPA) tells us which parts to bring.

We carry OEM ViewLux actuators and control modules, plus aftermarket equivalents from Benson Smart Home that match the torque spec and draw the same amperage. For the 300 series, we stock both because the OEM transformer is now on 6-week backorder. • Glass panels stuck opaque or clear. The electrochromic driver has lost voltage regulation, usually from capacitor degradation in the 300 series or a failed bus isolator in the 500. We see this most in west-facing ADUs in Almaden Valley and Evergreen, where afternoon heat loads stress the drivers hardest.
• Clicking actuators with no window movement. The internal limit switch has worn or the nylon drive gear has stripped teeth. In San Jose’s dry climate, dust infiltration accelerates this - the gear housing isn’t sealed as well as the marketing suggested.
• Zone controls responding to the wrong room. The daisy-chain addressing on the low-voltage bus has drifted, often after a power surge or when a homeowner reset the main panel without following the proper sequence. The 500 series is particularly sensitive to cold-boot addressing.

But the electrochromic glass drivers run 120V through a step-up transformer to achieve the tinting voltage, and the actuators are under enough torque to pinch fingers or crack a $2,800 glass panel if you force it.
